What you really want is a Mesh Wifi system. If you're willing to buy a second router already, you can get a starter Mesh pack for around the same price as a decent standalone router. Mesh will be a series of routers, the main one hooked up to the modem and the others placed around the house where WiFi signal is usually the weakest. This will create a strong continuous WiFi connection throughout your home with minimal latency.
This is the mesh system I recently installed in my sister's house. Her kids complained about dead zones when they just had a single router, but now everyone has WiFi where it's needed.
