I just published my book, Belle Dame Sans Merci! It's a YA Fantasy at about 100,000 words about Beauty and the Beast set in hell, except there's no romance, since the Beast is evil incarnate (Lucifer).
It was really fun to write. It's my second book, but first fantasy, and I loved the world building, magic, and themes.
Here's the blurb:
In this dark twist on Beauty and the Beast, Belle's hobbies include reading, traveling, and killing evil people to get enough karma to go to heaven. She's a temp in hell, which is a maze of cubicles far below the earth's surface, where gargoyles, jackals, and golums work. Even though Belle excels at her job, she despises it. Hell is the worst. The office politics, mismanagement, gossips, and evil demons she works with are stressful. Her best friend, Typhoid Mary from the Poisoner Division, helps, but nothing can make up for working in hell.
She's on assignment hunting down a murderer when she gets a text from her boss. Lucifer wants to meet with her. Could she be released to heaven? Or, if her snarky coworker is right, she might be in trouble. There's a rumor the Beast eats errant temps.
When the monster locks Belle away in a dungeon, her inner rebellion and fight come out. She vows to kill the beast any way possible.
This book is a twist on Beauty and the Beast themes, but this Belle doesn't fall in love with a monster; inanimate objects don't dance and sing; and there's more fantasy, adventure, horror, twists, and turns than the original fairy tales could ever dream of.
There's a gaggle of witches who fly on broomsticks, harpies, magic, monsters, Mephistopheles, sacrifices, literary references, and more.
