I took two pairs of Columbia Silver Ridge hiking pants on a seven month tour.
I like that they have the zip-off lower legs, allowing me to easily regulate temperature as the weather warms up after a chilly morning start. They also dry super quickly if I get caught in a brief rain squall. However, the fit leaves something to be desired, and I wish they were a little more flexible for ease of movement.
I recently started getting into mountain biking, and on future tours, I might try wearing my mountain biking shorts. I'll lose the convenience of the zip-off legs, but these pants are super comfortable and provide plenty of room for movement. The waist is also adjustable with Velcro straps on either side, which I think I prefer for biking over the belt included with the former pants.
