this one is pretty awesome. the light is wonderful warming and welcoming. you just feel good. but heavy sleepers would require their smartphone to sound an alarm because the integrated noises aren't that loud.

I got the Philips HF3531 but the HF3520 linked is fine if you don't need that night light to read in bed or something. Also got it for a friend who was always stressed in the morning and waking up feeling crushed and with a headache.

The one I use by Philips has been discontinued, but I've been using it for 11 years without any issue so they've earned some brand loyalty from me if it ever needs replacing. They seem to have a few options at different price points.

My runner-up choice would be Hatch. I only have the kids version for our nursery, but it works great and they make one for adults that I'll link below.

It was about $100 when I bought it, seems to be so now as well. I think the main difference in the prices is how bright they get

This is the one I have. Your body naturally wakes up when there is light, you might notice this if the sun shines on you on a weekend there you intend to sleep till noon but become awake at 7 AM instead because of the sun.

If you like me have to wake up before the sun rises these lights wake up and you feel more rested because of naturally waking up.

I would not recommend getting a Phillips due to the increase in quality not being worth the extra $50-60. I would recommend getting some Phillips hue light bulbs and setting them up with the Sleep Cycle app. It analyzes your sleep through and finds the part where you get out of REM so you feel more awake when you wake up. If you have some Phillips Hue light bulbs you can set them to light up instead of your phone alarm going off. This is the absolute best way to wake up at the right time for your body IMO.

Phillips hue lightbulbs are a bit expensive but totally worth it since light is one of the most important things to make a room feel nice and welcoming.

Sorry for the rant, you can do some more research yourself, I highly recommend it.

I bought this one and it's great. It wakes me up smoothly, to the sound of birds chirping. My bedroom is very dark and is on the backside of my house, which never gets any sun, so it's really good since I don't get a natural sunrise in that room.

However, while this clock does wake me up it doesn't motivate me to actually get up and start my day.

I have a lot of trouble waking up too, so I may go a bit overboard, but on the off chance something helps, here’s my method:

  • Melatonin at night so my body isn’t still producing it in the morning (I have Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome so this is a must). I also do a bunch of relaxation stuff at bedtime since I have trouble winding down.
  • Sunrise alarm clock, the fancier one that changes colors as the light increases to simulate sunrise. The sunrise function takes 30 minutes, so I set one alarm for 45 minutes before I need to get up to give myself an alarm to turn off, and one for 15 minutes before I need to get up to give myself some leeway. I also use the sunset function at night while I’m doing stretches or reading a book.
  • Blackout curtains on the window - sunrise alarm clock doesn’t work properly without them.
  • Sleep tracking app on my phone that has an alarm function that supposedly wakes you up during light sleep. I use one called Pillow but there are better ones if you have a smartwatch.
  • If I really need to be up at a specific time, a loud alarm clock on the other side of my room. If my wake-up time is more flexible, I’ll usually use an alarm or two on my phone; it’s nearly impossible to turn off 3-4 alarms going off at the same time and that forces me to wake up.

Helpful things I've bought:

  • Blue light blocking glasses: I am trying various types of blue light blockers and will update this comment when I find the best one. Currently I wear clear ones starting at 7pm & switch to orange ones around 8:30; I may start wearing the clear ones earlier to see if that helps. UPDATE: I bought some blue light blockers with red lenses (I believe they're also sold as red light therapy glasses) and Y'ALL. Damn do they make a difference! These are the ones I bought; they're made to block out all blue light and they work really well. New schedule is clear glasses at 5pm, orange glasses at 7pm (or if I'm driving anywhere at night), red glasses at 9pm, up to bed at 10pm. The orange glasses are optional for me at home, but I'm keeping them because of how useful they are for driving. TL;DR: Blue light blockers with red lenses are the best. If you're only getting one pair, get the red ones.
  • Sunrise/Sunset alarm clock: This didn't work for the longest time, but now that I have a sleep routine it works amazingly well! I'm waking up naturally now, feeling more rested - love it! I shelled out for the Phillips brand clock, but there appear to be some good dupes now. Look for one that changes color as the light grows brighter/dimmer (should be red at the dimmest setting).
  • Blackout curtains: Not only do I sleep better with these closed, but my sunrise clock is more effective. Love them.
  • Smart watch: This was actually a gift; I would not have bought one on my own. I have a Garmin vivosmart 4. It doesn't help me sleep but does track my sleep, which I find useful.

Things I intend to buy & will update y'all on:

  • Weighted blanket: I have trouble sleeping without a heavy blanket, which makes summer difficult. I hope this will help.
  • Light box: I have a portable light box, but it doesn't work super well and I'm hoping to find one that does.
