Some of the best ones are older. There is of course the Lombard recording from 1968 with Franco Corelli and Mirella Freni. It’s in great analogue stereo sound.

My personal favourite studio recording is a mono Decca recording from 1953 with my favourite Roméo, Raoul Jobin, and Janine Micheau.

One of the very best recordings of all is a live performance from the Met in 1947 with Jussi Björling and Bidú Sayão in their prime. The sound is by no means bad - it is certainly at a similar level to studio recordings made around a similar time.

Overall, though, if you want a great a recording in great sound, the Lombard recording is the one to have. If none of these appeal to you, here is an entire list of every single Roméo et Juliette recording from Opera Discography: https://www.operadis-opera-discography.org.uk/CLGOROME.HTM
