Thanks for your input on the shoulder plane. I'll take that into consideration. Aside from the more premium ones, I was looking at the Taytools shoulder plane, which is in about the same price range at the modern Stanley. I am content with their marking gauge, and the No. 4 bench plane I got from them works fine for my level. I'll update in the future if I decide to try that one out.

I agree with the SW low angle jack plane being a decent option. I use it after my scrub plane and before my smoothing plane. Shooting with it works well too, though my sides are a bit out of square with the sole. My partner gifted it to me early in my woodworking journey (it was my first non-junk hand plane since the $16 Stanley on Amazon was my first), so it has some sentimental value to me as well.
