i dont have a need to do tons of fancy stitching, i just want the basics. because i dont have the money to buy a super high end model though, the middle quality ones that are computerized seem like a problem waiting to happen, where theres often a computer problem.
so i greatly prefer mechanical type machines, and in general am on simple is good, or at least not bad =)

I've also used a vintage singer featherweight and a modern singer mini machine. The janome derby is better.

Had to google the machine, absolute garbage (sorry mom).
Personally I would NOT recommend Singer, yeah it's better that the thing you have, but there are budget priced machines by better brands out there. Janome & Brother both have budget models in your price range that are far superior quality to the Singer.
