IMHO, a mini PC would make the most sense. The 2600 is ancient technology at this point, and a dirt cheap mini PC running an N5105/N95 or better would almost certainly be better at this point (as well as cheaper and quieter to run). Something like this, which is as low as $160USD (8GB/256 model = $199 - $40 instant coupon; IMHO, I'd spend just a bit more and get the 16GB one just because it'll have dual-channel RAM instead of a single 8GB stick, and at that low end dual-channel does make a big difference). There are also very good AMD-based mini PCs, though they'll be a bit more expensive.
Going RPi right now probably doesn't make much sense, considering you can't really get them (or if you can, it's at 3-4x MSRP).
