But it's nearly $500 for a slight bit of automation. The only real gain is that it will guarantee that both devices are not pulling power at the same time. You can accomplish 99% of the same functionality with a simple splitter:

for $400 less. Both the EVSE and the dryer remain plugged in. The only requirement is checking the other device before starting your device.
I have a similar setup. Before plugging in, I check to see if the dryer is running. Or if I'm going to run the dryer, make sure no EV is charging. In over 6 months of use, we've slipped up one time. And yes, it did kick the circuit breaker.
