I basically never need my 1/2" stuff for anything 19mm or smaller, maybe the occasional rusty 17mm. My impact stuff is all Tekton, most similar to this I suppose, but Sunex is just fine as well.

What I do use all the time are 3/8" deep impacts (kinda like this) along with a cordless impact.

I've been slowly upgrading from my older DeWalt 12V stuff to the new hot 20V stuff. (That being the 3/8" drive DCF923B and the 1/2" drive DCF891) - between these two tools and the impact sockets that'd cover maybe 60% of the work I do.

Now granted, what I use vs. what the average home-gamer would use are pretty different, but.

Couple other things that are super handy: swivel sockets are a game-changer. Lisle 63600 best tool I've found for subaru's "ring of fire" oil filters. It's literally impossible to have too many magnetic trays. I went through a couple different T70s before I got the OTC T70 and it's held up fantastically. For FA/FB spark plugs, Koken has the best socket I've used.

idk what all you really need, but I know a lot of techs can end up being tool snobs to some extent -- that's not really me. Most of my toolbox is tekton-sunex-gearwrench-etc. caliber tools -- I'll only go for the snapon-tier stuff when ether no one else makes the given tool, or when the tool truck stuff is so much better than everyone else's that it justifies its cost.
