I bought the SR as an upgrade from my ender 3 v2. It only took me about 45 minutes (spread over several hours and dinner) to put together. The SR doesn't need any hardware upgrades. It rocks right out of the box. It has been printing flawlessly from day one. I'm not changing any hardware till it breaks :-)
Having said that, there are a couple of things you might consider:
- The biggest upgrade may be the slicer. It only comes with Cura 4.4 or something, which works fine. But I got Cura 4.11 beta working with a profile for SR so I'm much happier. I just like all the extra stuff Cura keeps adding and perfecting.
- I've heard it will work fine with Octoprint, but this means adding a Raspberry Pi. I would suggest a Raspberry Pi 4 B (8gb), Armor Case, On/Off switch, PortaPow USB Power Blocker or you can just put tape on the 5v pin. That is all way overkill but the way I like it. Or, use any Pi that you already have. I use Octoprint with my Ender and will never go back. But I haven't tried it with the SR yet cause it means I can't use it with the Ender. Might have to add a second Pi.
Cheers!
