Just got the 76EQ as well.
I think the finder scope is slightly awkward, but haven't had any issues other than needing to adjust it. During the day, point the scope to fixed object at a distance (say a lamppost or radio antenna) and then adjust the finder so that both dots and circles are perfectly lined up with it. This really helped me later on.
As for upgrades, Celestron has a kit for the AstroMaster scopes (here). It has a 2x Barlow, 15mm Kellner, 6mm Plössl and a couple filters. I might get it in a couple days, we'll see how that turns out. Edit: The Barlow also has a t-adapter if you want to get a t-ring for a DSLR.
