Sure, and if you are shooting with a $5k camera, you can probably afford the real thing.

But there are quite a lot of people out there shooting with sub $1k in gear--maybe they want a way to carry their cameras and don't want to shop the "Luxury brand"...The Capture V3 is smaller, sleeker, operates more smoothly, and has better fit and finish than the ebay special, but the ebay special works fine and costs a fraction of the price.

Maybe Peak Design should try to access that market by offering their older designs at a discount with a few tweaks that make them less desirable to pros like use a non-standard camera plate rather than one that matches the Arca-Swiss standard. Pros can pay the $70 for a sleeker package that allows their camera to go straight from clip to tripod ball head...others can pay $35 for a bulkier clip that requires them to unscrew the plate to connect to a tripod (which is fine, because they are probably using a cheap tripod with a non-standard plate or even with just a bare 1/4" screw).

edit: and its not like Peak Design is hand making these goods in the US or something...their hardgoods are all made in China at some generic contract manufacturer.

I have a vintage Tiltall, which is excellent (the reviews of the new manufacture Tiltalls are not great) like this (not recommending for or against this listing, just illustrating the type):

The Star Adventurer tripod is well regarded, but the addition of a ball head will put you a bit over budget. https://www.skywatcherusa.com/products/star-adventurer-tripod

Around the $100 is where you can get decent photographic tripods, and frankly, in that price range they're all essentially the same thing with different brand names. I don't really like the standard photographic tripod design for AP (there's very little resistance to rotation around the z axis thanks to the head being attached by a single screw with no bearing surface to speak of, which is an issue when trying to make fine adjustments, especially with a tracker), but they're certainly useable.
I'm talking about this style (I am not recommending for or against this specific listing, just using it as an example of the design): https://www.amazon.com/GEEKOTO-Monopod-Compact-Aluminum-Traveller/dp/B07DFBYFGC/

Certainly Avoid tripods that look like this:

AmazonBasics 50-Inch Lightweight Tripod w/ Bag is $13.60 (normally $17)

Definitely for amateurs, but it has excellent reviews.
