I didn’t with the whisper because the cords are super thick and my pools were up against the wall of the tank with the cords running directly out so the crabs really couldn’t reach them. I inspected them regularly for any signs of wear. With the sponges I have now they are powered entirely by an air pump so the only thing going into the tank is airline tubing.
