Get one of the M1 Mac Minis and an LG ultra wide monitor. They're very nice and at a good price. I got 2-29's, but if I were only getting one I'd have gone at least 34".https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0876DBCBX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If budget is no issue, then get a 49" ultra wide and have the ability to put multiple windows side by side.

This frees up spaces, limits clutter, gives you the functionality if 2 monitors..side by side apps and such.

Then get a seperate TV. I don't like using a TV as a main computer monitor, but that's just me.

It's about having the right equipment that is flexible. You obviously can't use the same camera across 2 devices. Use it where you need it. If you video conference a lot for work, obviously you want the good camera there.

I run a dual boot desktop, and M1 Mac Mini which share 2 ultra wide monitors and work with one keyboard and mouse. Peripherals include a Sony 5100 that I use as a webcam, 2 mics (boom and dynamic) and a set of speakers. One desk.

How I do it (hopefully it will give you some ideas that you can do with your work/personal computers):

  • The LG monitors (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0876DBCBX) have multiple input options, including 2 HDMI and Display Port.
I run the PC through the display ports, and the mac through the HDMI. LG monitors have an easy-to-use switch. I just switch the monitors to the OS I want to use at the moment.
  • I use Synergy to use the same keyboard and mouse across OS's. It works with Windows, Mac and Linux, which is what I'm running. https://symless.com/synergy
  • I use these monitor speakers that have multiple input options. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D40MNCU
The PC is connected via 3.5mm to RCA cables.
The Mac is connected via USB-A cable.
I also have a Rodecaster Pro that is connected to them via 1/4 inch audio to 1/4 audio cables.
Everything uses the same speakers. Each controls it's own volume and audio enhancements.
  • Since the steaming software I want to use is only for MAC, that's where the main camera and mic set up are connected. I can easily be on the PC on one monitor, Mac on the other and start a video conference via the MAC without skipping a beat. I also have a cheap action cam that I can plug into the PC if needed there.
  • I have a NAS and Nextcloud set up that lets me use the same storage and swap files between all the OS's. I don't store much on each device.
  • I use IMAP email clients on all of them so that I always have access to email no matter what I'm on.

I mainly use the PC for work, the MAC for any video or streaming or creative stuff, and Ubuntu is just for play and experiments and OSINT stuff.

Keyboard shortcuts work on each specific OS. Yes, I can copy from the PC and paste to the MAC. I think it works with Ubuntu too but I haven't tired it.

I can have the PC on one monitor, Mac on the other, or mix and match PC/PC, MAC/MAC, PC/Mac, Ubuntu/Ubuntu, Ubuntu/MAC. Same keyboard, mouse, speakers and monitors. No splitters. No KVM switches.

I don't know if any of that helps, but just letting you know that it's possible to run multiple computers, share storage, and use the same peripherals across each and run dual monitors , 1 keyboard and 1 mouse on your desk.

Your work probably has it's own storage and doesn't want you using your personal stuff for work stuff, but I can see how you can set things up to easily switch between the two when needed.

You could also ask work to supply another camera, or don't use any of your personal things on your work device at all, and let the quality of what they get match the quality of what they provided.
