So one thing I noticed is the location of the magsafe ring seems to be quite high on most cases with the top of circle being above the bottom of the bottom lens.

This pretty much negates any rectangular magsafe accessory. On a clear case I bought, my case mate battery hits the raised edge of the camera area.

I picked up this case first, and the magsafe location is below the camera edge. My battery fits, and the phone charges. YMHML for Samsung Galaxy S23... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQMN2YHR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Still waiting for my port in number transfers and the timer starts with Google fi before I pop out the sim and put my tmo one in so it can be my daily driver. So can't vouch for the effectiveness of the charging.

But don't seeuch of the point of doing magsafe if the only usable accessories are the round ones. The real plus for me is magnetic battery so I don't need a separate battery and cord to charge for the handful of times I need to charge away from an outlet.

Otherwise I could just throw a metal plate behind my case and stick with my wixgear magnet mount like I have had with my Note 20.

For as much as Samsung likes to follow apple's lead on how to maximize profit and fuck over customers (ie removal of user friendly features) you'd think they'd take the charging area into account for magsafe to maximize the use of the accessories.

Will be nice when the consortium finalizes their mag qi standard. There will be plenty of accessories then without relying on magsafe accessories.

Name brand cases have been $50 to $80 each for at least a decade. I assume many people simply buy cases sold by Chinese companies that do not design their own cases. Such cases that have built-in MagSafe-compatibile magnets are available on Amazon and AliExpress for under $20 each (e.g., $15.19 YMHML Magnetic, $19.99 Sinyoeer Carbon Fiber).

Also, inflation plays at least a small role. When the first iPhone was released in 2007, it retailed with a starting price of $499 with a two-year contract; $499 in June 2007 is $711 in December 2022 when adjusted for inflation. A decade ago, the unlocked iPhone 5 retailed with a starting price of $649; $649 in November 2012 is $837 in December 2022 when adjusted for inflation.
