Not necessarily.
Amazon Sony PS5: Item Weight: 4.78 Kg (10.54 pounds)
To find a 1:1 comparison with this terminology I used another Amazon link showing "Item Weight" wherein they use the weight of the console itself, 7.3lbs.
Amazon Sony PS4 Pro: Item Weight: 7.28 pounds
Although I'd have to assume ditching the HDD would come with a decent weight savings. The PS5 does look massive, however, so that could be offset.
You did no such thing in your original post. Feel free to re-quote your original post to me.
Conversational context.
Did you just prove yourself wrong in that it's a bad assumption that everything else in the package weighs the same as the PS4? That the changing weight of the controller makes it much more difficult to compare packages for any meaningful console-weight comparison? Yes. You did.
No I did not. First of all, I said I wasn't going to make the assumption that the packaging and periphery is all the same and second, even if they lightened the DualSense compared to the DS4, it wouldn't change the total weight by much because the DS4 is only ~200g as it is.
Curiously, OP's link uses "item weight" and your link for a PS4 Pro uses "Product Dimensions: 36.8 x 12.2 x 47 cm ; 5.08 Kg" and it's not entirely clear what the difference is between "item weight" and "product dimensions."Curiously, OP's link uses "item weight" and your link for a PS4 Pro uses "Product Dimensions: 36.8 x 12.2 x 47 cm ; 5.08 Kg" and it's not entirely clear what the difference is between "item weight" and "product dimensions."

It says both Item Weight and Product Dimensions is 7.28 pounds. Also, it says: "18.5 x 4.92 x 14.96 inches; 7.28 pounds" The PS4 Pro is not that big, so they have the packing dimensions and the console weight mixed together in the product dimensions. So the US amazon listing fails.
Another amazon.de PS4 Pro listing and it says it's 2kg. So we can't trust anything Amazon says.

I bought it new from the 3rd party seller Holiday Electronics Deal. The other one I bought from TRENDY-TECH came with 7.02. Good luck!
So less than the PS4 Pro.
Are you literally ever correct?
Console | Weight |
---|---|
PS4 | 6.2 pounds (2.8kg) |
PS4 Slim | 4.6 pounds (2.1kg) |
PS4 Pro | 7.3 pounds (3.3kg) |
Xbox One | 7.8 pounds (3.5kg) |
Xbox One S | 6.4 pounds (2.9kg) |
PS5 | 10.54 pounds (4.78kg) (according to OP) |
Edit:
OP's link uses "Item Weight"

This PS4 Pro comparison uses a completely different metric, Product Dimensions, and is therefore a poor measurement for comparison.
No, you assumed I was only taking about the console, I already explained I was talking to OP who knew about the listing, not you.
You did no such thing in your original post. Feel free to re-quote your original post to me.
Although, you could extrapolate that if both consoles contain the same periphery and cables and the packaging weighs roughly the same
Yeah, and it's not like they said they tried to lessen the weight or anything
