I bought mine about a year ago. I love it.

Here are some tips, in no particular order!

  • Take the beginner's course! It's under courses and I believe it is called "Mastering the Basics." It will, over time, most likely kick your butt. That's ok! The course does a great job of starting slow (don't skip those!) and mastering form.

  • Regarding community, it might be good to set expectations. You might find that with Peloton (ie. here on this sub), but it's not why I in particular use Peloton. I don't really bond with other riders on the bike itself, and I think Peloton makes that intentional to safeguard people and protect consent and engagement. That said I have a few friends who saddle up and we talk all the time about instructors and courses and so forth, so that is fun.

  • Take at least one course from as many instructors as you can. Not only might your favs be different from mine or others, but I've found that not only do my favorites change over time. Yours probably will too! Right now my go-to's are Denis, Sam, and Tunde. There are a couple instructors I cannot stand. Which is fine. Peloton has done a really good job of diversifying the styles and approaches of each of the instructors. There's pretty much something for everyone, with not really any repeats in style or approach.

  • You can use your Peloton every day but it's also good to give yourself at least one day or even two as a break. That said, you can also engage with the platform in other ways. I did not sign up for Peloton for meditation or yoga, but I find myself loading up those classes more often, and especially on days where I don't cycle.

  • For me anyway, building a routine means doing it as soon as I wake up. If I put it off, I just won't do it; the day gets too busy. That may or may not be true for you, but it's probably safe to say that if you're changing the time every day, it'll be harder to keep it consistent. So tie the routine of cycling to another routine and you'll be more likely to keep doing it, in my opinion.

  • Finally, listen to your body, and be gracious. I got covid in January and couldn't even hop on the bike for quite a while. When I did, I had to start from scratch. At first I was angry about it, disappointed in myself, but I've realized that it's ok! One thing Peloton has taught me is to listen closely to what my body is saying. I can tell when I can push things a bit, and when it's better just to let go and be gracious. Offer your body the same courtesy and it'll thank you with effort and output!

edit: oh! get a heart rate monitor if you don't already have a fitbit or a smartwatch. I got this one and it seems to work just fine!

I'm a little late to the replies, but I use this one

Not sure if it is available in the UK or not, but it does exactly what you are asking. Wristband, connects to the App, inexpensive, and it works!!

My wife is petit (5’1” under 100 lbs) with tiny arms but this brand from Amazon fit her and I both very well. There are two straps for the arm. She uses it for Peloton and I use it for Zwift.
