Im using this one.. honestly it seems pricey at $88 but ive digitized over 30 hours of home movies in the past week and its saved me so many headaches.. the software is super simple and it's paid itself already. I did have audio sync issues ONCE..but i was able to pinpoint the blame for that on my pc as i was using Premiere at that moment and i had messed with the settings...

It seems like you’ll need a good bit of outdated equipment. If you have the cameras for these tapes, you’re in a better place. Depending on how much stuff you have, you may want to consider sending your tapes to a professional company to digitize them for you. I’d be happy to refer you to the company I work for, if you’d like. We do work nationwide. Definitely will come with a cost, but something to consider if these tapes are important to you. DM me if you want a link!

Also, if you have means to play the tapes, this is all you’d need to digitize them

I use this:

Installing the software was easy. So is hooking it up. I just push a button and leave it playing/copying. I've used it with countless tapes now.

I’ve seen in an old thread that this cable is good but it does seem a bit expensive.

I'd check this out. I recently used it to copy a bunch of old home videos for my dad onto a digital format.

Thanks. So I was planning to connect it to my computer via this device to watch / convert the tapes to digital. The device states it can handle PAL / NTSC both, so I'm hoping that will not be an issue. And I don't believe my TV is PAL capable (Samsung 50" bought in 2011 in US) but if I did want to connect the VCR to it, I think I could use this converter. Curious for your thoughts.

One of these should do it.

It looks like you can find AV1 to regular red, yellow, white AV adaptors. From there you should be able to use a digitizer like one from elgato
