I bought this a few weeks ago to start experimentally recording without dropping $400+ on an interface, mics, xlr cables, etc.

I’m pretty happy with how it captures the cello and its drastic tones and pitches. I would recommend getting a stand like this because it took a lot of adjusting to figure out the best location for the mic. I use the usb connection (it has xlr, too) and record in Ableton so I can still adjust effects, etc.

Problem with fancier mics is you need an interface and things get expensive quickly

I think the approach of the microphone has to change.

You ideally down't want to clamp a microphone to a desk. That limits you actually. Because the microphone isn't in an optimal position.

Instead you should have the microphone on a proper stand.

What I'd recommend is the following and you'll find it more convenient.

Buy 2 different mic stands. 1 for standing. And 1 for your desk.

For standing, use this stand here:

https://www.amazon.com/Stage-MS7201B-Round-Microphone-Stand/dp/B0002MJTZ8/ref=sr_1_14?

But if you'd like to do things while sitting, also buy this.

https://www.amazon.com/Stage-DS7200B-Adjustable-Desktop-Microphone/dp/B0002M3OVI/ref=sr_1_16?

The first link is something you put in your booth for when you are standing.

The second link is one that's easy to carry around and easy to put anywhere on your desk.

Also buy this:

This is a quick release. This will make it so that if you want to move your microphone from your desk to standing, you can do it in 1 second. Rather than turn, turn, turn, turn, turn, unscrew and putting it on another stand. Done in 1 second. Click. And just like that your mic is on another stand.

If you have room on the floor, you can get a mic stand. By having it on the floor instead of your desk, the mic won't pick up vibrations from your keyboard or mouse.
