Yeah, until recently, GF forced you to use their crappy Network Box, which meant you could either use a bridged router (which neuters its functions) in conjunction with Google’s network box, or do some pretty advanced stuff with a select few routers to completely circumvent the network box. Fortunately, GF now offers a “Bring Your Own Router” plan, which allows you to plug any router directly into the Fiber Jack without any fuss.

If your primary goal is to obtain good coverage and have a simple to setup and use device, I would personally recommend starting with a good base router, but one that has the ability to add additional mesh nodes as needed. Maybe the one you linked fits that criteria, but otherwise Google WiFi (Google Fiber may even offer you this as an option for free if you talk to customer service, as this is standard with all new installs at this point), Netgear Orbi, Eero, or AmpliFi HD/AmpliFi Alien are all great routers with very easy setup, and the ability to add mesh nodes as needed. This way you could start with just a base router placed centrally in your home, and then see how coverage is and expand your network from there, without over complicating/spending up front with possibly more than you need.
