You should get a pop filter instead. Wind screens are more for if you are outside and there is wind blowing. Pop filters help get rid of the plosives (hard P and B sounds).
Wow, thank you so much for the quick reply, Griseus! Your uploads are superb!
There are ways to solve that though.
Are you rocking this foam windscreen as a solution? It seems to be doing a great job all by itself, from what I can see in your videos. Do you also use a traditional pop filter like this one for an extra layer of filtering or would that be redundant in this case?
I suggest you put the pc or laptop as far as you can from the mic
Would buying an extension cord of sorts remedy this issue? Or could that introduce mild to moderate distortion?
On a related note, do you use a sound card or preamp for your recordings? Those cost a pretty penny and might just push me into sticking with the best bang for my buck, the Blue Yeti, while I spend the remaining funds on an audio interface if that helps a ton.
Thanks again for your input, and I, too, am psyched to get this project started asap!
I suggest the ATR2100 dynamic mic. Here's why:
It is both USB and XLR compatible, so in the future if you want to upgrade to an XLR setup you don't have to buy a new mic at the same time. This makes the upgrade less expensive.
It is a dynamic mic. Most people like condenser mics because their stats look better. They probably even sound better in an acoustically treated room. However, not everybody has an acoustically treated room, and it you don't then they pick up a TON of background noise. It will be much easier to clean the audio and ultimately it will sound better to use a dynamic mic (unless you treat your recording space).
It's got an on/off switch, an indicator light, and a 3.5mm jack for a headset if you want to use it.
It's $50, so you can also afford to get a mic stand and a pop filter. Maybe even a shock mount if you want.
Will it sound as good as a Blue Snowball, or a CAD U37? Given that you'll be recording more of your voice and less of your environment it probably will sound better and will decrease the amount of editing you will have to do. Does it look as pretty as one of the other mics? Not particularly.
