I've got a double whammy for you. A pounding bench with a xylophone. An enterprising toddler might, say, throw the rather heavy ball around, instead of gently pounding it through the hole. But if they do indeed push it through the hole? Xylophone to the rescue!
Really a xylophone in general is good, or a toddler piano - I'm not a fan of things with batteries, because the parents can just take the batteries out!
For non-loud gifts especially as they get older, please consider things with glitter, slime, (glitter slime ....), and things with many tiny pieces.
Also do not underestimate the power of an enormous stuffed animal. Like the type you can win at a carnival.
