well factor in that original controllers will work great but most of the time will have the loose thumbstick, and i'm talking about the majority of the ones you'll find. I don't know much about the usb controller but i've bought a few 3rd party n64 controllers and while it works fine, they screw up on the most important thing. the thumb stick doesn't read as precisely, and it made some parts of ocarina of time unplayable because you just couldn't move accurately. I've used mayflash adapters alot so they're pretty great, if you can find an original controller with a good thumbstick I recommend that with the mayflash, but since I don't know much about your controller, I can't really weigh in there, although some of the reviews say "not for macs period" "buttons are unresponsive!" "you get what you pay for". so buy at risk.
This one is my personal favorite. Its slightly more sensitive stick than the original controller but I really like it. For me its worked nonstop for the past few years. http://www.amazon.com/Madcatz-MOV55326-N64-Advanced-Control-Pad/dp/B00008KTXO/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1431209576&sr=8-5&keywords=n64+turbo
