Rather than use the camera connector you should just use a powered hub that will charge your iPad.
This worked great for me. If you plug in an official Apple charger into the pass-through USB power, it will charge your iPad and give you three USB hubs.

I would say don't use the camera connector for pass through power, it probably won't work.
I use the uni 8-in-1, it has USB-C charging input, 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, SD, MicroSD, gigabit Ethernet, and HDMI. The HDMI can only output 4k30hz, but if you're using an eGPU that won't be an issue. I also like that it has a USB-C input with a small included cable rather than the cable being attached. I keep it in my backpack for when I need to plug something into my laptop, my at home setup is having all of my peripherals plugged into my eGPU and running that all through one TB3 cable.

I got this one a couple of years ago. $60, but it has performed just fine for me in all regards (and it does have a USB-C port for power, if you need it). It only has a single HDMI outlet, but since the M1 MBA can only support a single external monitor, that's all you should need.
Another option is fiber optic USB-C cables. You can use a hub without a captive USB-C cable on it (Like this or this) and a fiber optic USB-C Cable (like this).
The Hub will need a separate power supply for it since the fiber optic cable will only pass like ~5W through it to the hub. A cheap USB-C power supply (30W USB-C chargers are cheap and more than enough) and a regular old USB-C cable will then power the hub.
