Thomas Becket was the Archbishop of Canterbury up until 1170, when he was accidentally condemned to death by his once best bud King Henry II. Oops!

It's not a book, but a short story.

The book is about Sir Edward Grim, a clerk who was the only person at the end to actively try to defend the Archbishop.

Oh, and here's the story if you're interested.
