Hey guys! Sorry for the repeat question, but I'm about to pull the plug on some budget monitors from Amazon. Someone ahd mentioned the JBL 305 as a good option, and I found these here: https://www.amazon.com/JBL-Professional-Next-Generation-Powered-305PMKII/dp/B077N2GQXC/ref=sr_1_2?crid=35SZL9EX78942&keywords=JBL%2B305&qid=1673664415&sprefix=jbl%2B305%2Caps%2C144&sr=8-2&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.f5122f16-c3e8-4386-bf32-63e904010ad0&th=1
Are these the ones referenced? If so, which XLR cables would I need to purchase for these to work with my Schiit Magnious? And are these speakers still considered good value? They're 4.7/5 on Amazon, which is pretty nice to look at.
Thanks!
Could something like this work? JBL Professional 305P MkII 5" 2-Way Powered Studio Monitor (new model) - 305PMKII https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077N2GQXC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_03YXCbJE7PEJG
Pretty much any modern bookshelf speaker combination and a small Class D amp.
The JBL LSR-305 MKII are amazing powered speakers for $240.00 a pair. Stick an Amazon Echo Dot or a Nest mini on them for $50.00 and you have a $290 setup with smarts, and the Echo dot will do Apple Music.
Do they look at pretty as the HomePod? No, they don't. And they're not as compact. But that's because they're real speakers. You're not dropping them on your kitchen counter.
There are plenty of other bookshelf speakers that sell for less than $600 a pair.
On the "Smart" speaker side, the Amazon Echo Studio sounds pretty amazing and it's only $200.
Supposedly, the HomePod was something Apple was working on before the Amazon Echo came out. They designed an amazing speaker, but released it in an era where people were more interested in the "smart," instead of the speaker.
If they come down in price to $200 on clearance, I might consider getting one. But I am also worried that at some point it will just stop working. If Apple changes the Apple Music or Siri API, there may be an issue with these speakers.
