FWIW: I just wanted to share with you guys a "gear" item that has turned, unexpectedly, into one of my favourites for the PCT and beyond.

I love (crime) podcasts and listen to some during my long hiking days. I don't have my earphones in all the time but when the monotony sets in on long days in the forest, I very much appreciate the distraction and sometimes binge on podcasts for hours.

Having tried AirPods at home and other Bluetooth solutions on previous hikes, I ordered the following headphones from Amazon - mostly based on the claim of 24hr playback time, water resistance and quick charging. And wow do I love them! I wanted Bluetooth headphones (having started with the regular white Apple headphones with cable to avoid charging, quickly realizing the cable was always in the way and my hand/trekking pole motion would often catch it) but I didn't want AirPods that don't have the loop behind the neck. I pulled my headphones out of my ears when meeting other hikers, especially at water sources, and loved that they would just hang around my neck until used again instead of having to hold them in my hand or find a pocket.

When I bought them they claimed 24hr playback time while the updated 2020 version now says 16hrs. And they really do last that long on one charge, quality is good and recharging is quick and didn't even register on my powerbank indicator. A friend who joined me for a while ordered another set that claimed 5hr playback time and she was constantly running out of "juice".

I still use them every day. For xc skiing when I'm by myself. For runs. Around the house. On my bus commute. They are AWESOME.
