We found a ball that lasted a looooong time for our pups, which is highly unusual. Obviously after about a year of just gnawing on it on rare occasions they start to tear chunks out and it's time for a new one, but it was worth it given how cheap it was--like $12, I think. Also, we've just embraced their destructive side with plush toys. We get our dogs stuffed animals from Goodwill every now and again ($0.99 - $1.00) and just let them rip them apart in a designated area. Then we clean up the mess and do it all over again in a week or so. It's less of a hassle to clean up stuffing in every room every day; plus, it makes it all the more exciting and special for them! They know not to tear up anything of ours and that the stuffed animals are solely for their enjoyment. Just make sure they don't have beads in them and cut out the eyeballs if they're plastic.
Giant rope toys from Walmart are great, too. You just have to assign tug-o-war time and not leave them unsupervised. They're about $8 and they last about a month for us.
