Thanks for the encouraging and informative comment!

Good to know about the current NEC code and surge protection, I didn't realize that.

I like the idea of using anti-burst shut offs like IntelliFlow. I think I like the idea of a whole house detector better, though. Like Grohe or Moen. I may wait a year or so before purchasing one to see if a better competitor enters the market.

Funny enough, I was planning to generate a floorplan with either AutoCAD or Visio. I like the idea of using librecad, probably a little easier to use than AutoCAD. My plan was to take construction progress photos, especially pre-dry wall and then create an interactive floor plan, such as this one. Just need to figure out an easy way to create that interactive floor plan. Reason for it is I know once I take the pictures, I have to write down and organize them because I won't remember what room is what from a photo during construction, thus the want for a interactive map.

Love the idea of Wiser Energy. I've seen ads for different brands/model, but they all felt a little gimmicky. But I've used Schneider Electric products before and they're solid equipment, so I think I will add that to my list of home projects.

In regards to adding some kind of UV Light to my HVAC, I found this article that talks about how it's not as effective as the salespeople say it is. Pretty much the article says, it really can't clean the air circulating in your house since the air quickly passes through the UV light, but rather having a UV light on the evaporator coils can help kill growth there related to the moisture on the coils. Here's a good pros and cons list of installing a UV light.

What I was looking into, though I haven't found any white papers or research on the effectiveness of it, is adding MicroPower Guard to the furnace filter. The brochure makes it sound like it would help, but again I haven't seen any actual studies or user feedback to say for certain.

Water filtration and baseline testing is a good one. I'll add that to my list. I look to see if my area has hard water and it does not, so I'm good there.

Good point on moisture in regards to air sealed houses. I'll continue to do research on that.

Thanks for all your insight!
