You want bibs! Not shorts. So much more comfortable, no hot spots around the waist area, they don't fall down, zero chafing anywhere (important) etc. Shorts and the padded underwear things leave us guys at a disadvantage. Women usually wear bike shorts or leggings on the bike. For good reason. Gym shorts end up riding up, getting uncomfortable and worst of all chafing. I ride outside mostly have have been through A LOT of these. Here's some of my suggestions based on what I've used personally.

Cheap: I wear these for rides under 3 hours - so pretty much anything on the Peloton

Or these. I personally like the ones above much more. The padding is good but the leg grippers are nicer on the other ones

Better: these are getting into more premium territory. Still good for about 3 hours but everything is more comfortable. The chamois (pad), the fabric, the straps, the leg grippers, etc

Even better

Rapha core. Starting to get into the high quality stuff here. These are super nice and minimally branded (which I like personally). A massive step up from anything above and will last a long time. Comfort level all around is great up to about 4 hours

These recommendations are only if you have deep pockets or plan to ride outside some day. They are overkill for the peloton

Assos MILLE GT - Really good for long rides (+6 hours) in high temps. If you run hot inside and do a lot of 60, 75, 90 minute rides you could give these a go. Otherwise like I said, overkill for the Peloton

My go-to for endurance bibs. Pactimo Summit Stratos. They are called the12 hour bibs for a reason. I wear these on super long, all day rides. Or if I am doing back-to-back days with 5 to 7 hour rides each day. These are just amazing. Not only the padding, but the overall construction. There is weird compression stuff going on everywhere that is so comfortable and appreciated when fatigue really sets in.
