I used a pair of these in my nas to keep the nvme cache drives from throttling. As my drives were dual sided having a way to cool both sides of the drive seemed a benefit.

As I recall I found the same product on eBay for less (in a two pack) that took a little longer to ship. Happy with the result.

**** edit - just realized one of your links was for the same item. Regardless, happy with the result :)

Its a fraction taller then the dimensions in the instructions. But its this guy: https://www.amazon.com/heatsink-double-sided-matching-thermal-silicone/dp/B07KDDKDNN/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=mvne+heatsink&qid=1627658572&sprefix=mvne+heat&sr=8-4

Double sided, if it fits, it sits, if not, maybe I can just band the top? Guess ill find out!

I guess a Double-Sided Heat Sink would work if you're worried about cooling the 4TB SSD which I assume has chips on the back too.

I did. Used this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KDDKDNN/ with my 980 Pro and it just fits.

Can confirm that a Samsung 980 Pro plus this heatsink fits in a PS5. I put a 1TB drive in it last night and have been playing FF7 Remake Intergrade off it with no problems.

I went with Samsung simply because I’ve been using Samsung SSDs (SATA and NVME) in my PCs for years with no problems.

I'm not happy that the ezdiy-fab doesn't fit correctly, I've heard that you can't get proper airflow when it's touching the cover, I'm really not sure, but everyone seems to be getting this one from Amazon and it's back in stock so I just got this one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07KDDKDNN?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image

Confirmed that the Samsung 980 Pro 1TB drive works without issue. PS5 recognized it instantly, formatted it and was good to go. Moved MK11 from the system storage to the M2, start to finish it took 78 seconds for 86gb

Setup Photos

Update: I installed the drive in my PC and confirmed that the most recent firmware was already on the drive as confirmed by the Samsung Magician software. My PC is older and doesn’t support 4.0 speeds, can’t test that.

For those asking about the hestsink, i used this MHQJRH and did use the heat pads.

while i would agree, some $5 usb drive from amazon is probably a bad idea, a SSD via USB (SATA to USB 3.0 adaptor or similar) is 1000% fine. i personally have been booting off a Samsung NVMe EVO Plus for years via USB. If you boot an SSD or NVMe drive via USB, the wear issue is no longer a problem. USB 3.0 is plenty fast enough for boot drive. I have a supermicro board that has an internal USB 3.0 port and in a 4U chassis, height is not an issue, but you could use a USB extension cable or right angle adaptor, etc, whatever works for your setup.

After years of this, S.M.A.R.T. reports my EVO plus (250GB model) drive wear is still at 100%.

This NVME heat sink fits really well. Nearly flush. You can still fit the cover on it without any issue but I’m going to leave it off.

So if you can’t find an NVME SSD with an OEM heat sink like the WD SN850, you can get an add on one from Amazon for $10 here. It also comes in a few colors too if you don’t want a black one.

Can confirm that the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus works and it's showing the FASTEST read speed result I've seen out of the drives listed here.

I bought a new 1TB one with the MHQJRH heat sink (which comes with thermal pads, screws, and a perfectly sized screwdriver for $16). Fits perfectly including the metal plate cover, and clocked in at a bit over 6558 MB/s!

https://www.amazon.com/heatsink-double-sided-matching-thermal-silicone/dp/B07KDDKDNN/ref=mp_s_a_1_4

used this one which seems to work ok. My front SSD is usually ~60-65, the back with this heatsink is usually ~63-68C

This one has been recommended by many people:

MHQJRH M.2 2280 SSD heatsink, Double-Sided Heat Sink, with Thermal Silicone pad for PC / PS5 M.2 PCIE NVMe SSD or M.2 SATA SSD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KDDKDNN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_JF1MHKA9VBSAD0C1PY7W

There are many other options that fit within the PS5’s listed dimensions too

You can get an additional 12% cash back if you buy directly through Western Digital and pay with PayPal. This comes out to $375 - $45 = $330. Incredible deal for a high end 4TB SSD. Right now I have 4499 points pending in my PayPal account. I'm assuming I'll be able to redeem this for approx. $45 cash back into my bank account. I'll update this comment once the points have been posted.

Follow steps below on your phone to get the cash back (not working for myself and a lot of people through desktop):

Download and open PayPal app on your phone-->go to deals tab-->search for Western Digital-->Western Digital website will open-->log into Western Digital account and pay for item using PayPal-->once you see order confirmation screen, you can close the in-app web browser

EDIT

Forgot to mention that the 4TB model does not come with a heatsink. This is the one I got from Amazon, as other users have said it fits the SN850: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KDDKDNN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Will update this comment again when everything is installed and points have been redeemed for cash back.

I think all decent looking/decent reviewed ones should be sufficient. I haven't tried this one but it looks fine: https://www.amazon.com/heatsink-double-sided-matching-thermal-silicone/dp/B07KDDKDNN/

In terms of the Sabrent heatsink, that one is pretty unique and I agree I would like to see testing on it. I'm not sure when it releases though.
