Buy him these 2 sets. It will help him keep the 3/8” and 1/4” drives separate and will make his life way easier. Those huge kits are a gimmick and incredibly difficult to actually use and keep organized when you have a 1/4” and 3/8” ratchets. He can pull out exactly what he needs and see exactly what goes where when he’s putting it back. No need to remember what drive goes in which slot. Believe me, knowing the drive size is key to efficient auto mechanics and lugging around that huge case is far from a good time. Those cases also break instantly and then you’re left with a mess. These are compact and he can take what he needs. The little bits they include in those big kits are a joke and never get used. they are there to increase the number of pieces in the listing.

He’s not exactly a mechanic, he’s just been fixing his own (and friends/family) cars most of his life. Thank you for pointing out that the 232 has less socket heads than the 200! I misread. Sounds like I can get this stupid one for $100 or get him 2 Tekton kits, 1/4” and 3/8” for about $140 total. What do you think?
