The smaller form factor one looks to be the same capacity as the one HTC sells. So that means the smaller one should provide around 2.5 hours of play time. The bigger ones (like you posted) could double that to 5 hours but is more bulky and heavy.
I have one of Anker's bigger size USB battery banks (not QC 3.0) and it's pretty hefty in size and weight. Not sure if I could stand having that thing in my pocket or fastened to a belt.
I was on the market for a USB-C portable charger as well, but I settled for a non USB-C charger.
I do have to carry around a USB A-C cable, but it hasn't been too big of a deal. And this charger does fast charge my 5X, which was the main thing I was looking for in a portable charger. I've been able to get somewhere between 2-3 full charges of my 5X before needing to recharge the charger.
Hopefully. We do not know if HTC made some weird proprietary connection to the battery.
It uses a 10,050mAh QuickCharge 3.0 battery
" One interesting side note: to power the wireless experience, the website claims you should only ever use the HTC QC 3.0 Power Bank, a 10,050mAh battery with Quick Charging capabilities. At $80, this is nearly double the price of a similar Anker power bank however, and the company hasn’t specified exactly why it’s so important that users shell out the extra money. "
No one except for the Display Link team (developer of the Wireless Adapter) and HTC can tell you the answer to this. From what we know, they are packaging a HTC QC 3.0 USB powerbank with the adapter. So you should be able to use any QC 3.0 USB powerbank to power the adapter. What we don't know is if HTC did something to these powerbanks and/or to the adapter that makes it so that you have to get a specific HTC QC 3.0 USB powerbank.
Get a cheaper one on Amazon the week or so before the adapter comes out and if it ends up not working, send it back.
I have one of these
Works great for my Galaxy S8 and I chose that one particularly because it can fit in my pocket without being super heavy.
anker is my jam. I have yet to go wrong with them. I always look for quick charge and usb-c compatibility if possible.
if bulk isn't something you're concerned about - go big or go home. currently rocking a 26,800mAh. that thing is beastly. it even charges itself quickly. full in 8 hours more or less. took it to go fest and it lasted me all weekend. theyre on sale on amazon for $70.
if you're looking for something a little more reasonable in price range, as well as size, this one might be good for you. it doesn't break the bank @ $35, 10,000mAh, quick charge.
I definitely just recommend Anker in general. have had bad experiences with off brands, and Anker has always been reliable.
always purchase off amazon as well, they usually have sales on them.
Most of us are assuming that the adapter runs on a standard QC 3.0 USB battery bank (or a wall charger). The battery being included by HTC is pretty much just that so any QC 3.0 USB battery should work. Amazon has a whole slew of QC 3.0 USB batteries such as this one.
I would strongly not recommend buying HTCs battery as it is ridiculously overpriced.
