These are way better in terms of spectrum and PAR. 5000-6500K is heavier in blues which are more ideal for vegetation (non-flowering/fruiting plants), not to mention it is much more pleasing on the eyes and allows you to see the plants true colors more accurately which is helpful for diagnosing deficiencies. They are 24w per 2' strip instead of 10w and more than double PPFD.
Those are flourescent, not LED, so they would not be cost effective. Barrina sells LED fixtures that would be better suited for you. Such as these at $44.99
(Pack of 6) Barrina LED T5 Integrated Single Fixture, 2FT, 6500K (Super Bright White), Utility Shop Light, Ceiling and Under Cabinet Light, ETL Listed, Corded Electric with Built-in ON/Off Switch - - Amazon.com
Salads are not as picky about the light spectrum as other plants are.
Better would be these at $69.99
Amazon.com: Barrina Grow Lights, 2FT 5000K White Full Spectrum Plant Growing Lamps, 144W(6 x 24W, 800W Equivalent), T8 LED Grow Light Bulbs, Plant Lights for Indoor Plants, Greenhouse, Linkable Design, 6-Pack : Patio, Lawn & Garden
Barrina sells LED light fixtures in 2 ft, 3 ft, and 4 ft if you shelves are larger than 2 ft.
If you have room for "standard" length fixtures, these work well.
Amazon.com: Barrina LED Grow Light, 252W(6 x 42W) 4ft T8, Full Spectrum, V-Shape with Reflector, Linkable Design, Plant Lights for Indoor Plants, 6-Pack : Patio, Lawn & Garden
Please bear in mind that there are better solutions, such as the Spider Farmer SF600 for standard 2 ft x 4 ft shelves.
Hey hey.... Thanks so much for this post..
My question is about lights.
I am building a PVC shelving unit greenhouse. 2 shelves, 4 foot wide by 20 inches deep. I bought 2 sets of lights off Amazon. Here are links to them.
These are 6 - 24 inch lights and are 5000K and 2000Lm per light.
These are 8 - 24 inch lights and are 2819K and 1632Lm per light.
1.) Will they work?
2.) I know you can add the lumens total together to get that where it needs to be. Does kelvin work the same way?
I haven't opened them yet.
Also, I was going to put this in my office. It's almost always 70+ degrees. I was going to build it as a little greenhouse. The walls around it would be foam board wrapped in with mylar sheets. Is that a good idea or will it do more harm than good?
Thanks to anyone that will lend advice!
