I was also surprised and frustrated when I couldn't get AA to work correctly in my 2019 Leaf. I ended up seeing a post (can't remember where) saying that the USB cable linked below worked for them so I figured I'd give it a shot. I just received it yesterday and it works perfectly with my Moto X4. The braiding makes it a little stiff, but that allows you to bend it a bit and have it sort of keep the shape you choose, which helps keep it out of the way of the tight spot where the phone goes in the Leaf.

So far so good!

I needed a short cable (1 foot) for my car (2015-2021 VW Golf/GTI/R Mk7) since the USB port is right by phone mount. I tried a lot of the cheaper cables on Amazon, and they all had connectivity issues (disconnects randomly).

I finally found one that worked solidly with both my previous Pixel 4 and now my Pixel 6 Pro, and that's the Amazon Basics USB-A to USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 cable. https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Double-Braided-Nylon-Type-C/dp/B07D7PM3S4

It's overkill mostly because A) I'm pretty sure the car USB port is only USB 2.0 and B) I only get at most 1 A (and it fluctuates a lot). But the other cheaper ones that were only USB 2.0 A to C kept crapping out.

I got it mostly because the cable is thicker and nylon braided so hopefully it's less likely to fall apart on me.

PLUS, if I ever need to use it for an external USB SSD, this would be a good cable for it. :)
