When they had this backseat pet hammock (sounds weird I know, but check it out) at Costco, we picked it up. Worth it at twice the price.

It fits more or less perfectly, and installs/uninstalls in about 30 seconds. It does a great job of protecting our seats our seats and doors, and also keeps the dog hair more or less localized.

We have two dogs, both mutts, one is about 50lbs and looks mostly Australian Kelpie. The other is about 100lbs, and seems equal parts Catahoula cur, Lab, and GSD. They both fit back there, and since our Kelpie mix is a tri-pawed, we like how stable she is in this setup: no chance of falling off the bench and onto the floor. Worst case she just flops against one of the sides and easily recovers.

I haven't done anything else, because our pooches don't do the whole stand on the trim to look around thing. Hopefully some of the other posts will help with that.
