If you go to Amazon and then to the children's book section, if you scroll down on the left-hand side you can narrow by language so it will just show French. You can also narrow by age group if you're looking for something more specific.
Also since you mentioned books about birds specifically, here's an Amazon link to a book I've seen at a library I work at.
I'm not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for, but it does have very nice illustrations. It gives a little information about different, common birds. Since it's for kids it's not so much like a textbook, so I think it might fit what you're looking for.
