Just get a practical 4" knife, like a blaze-orange Morakniv Companion, $15 on Amazon. Beat the living shit out of it batoning wood, who cares.

Give your wife the impression that you can kill snakes ... carve a pointy stick really fast.

The knives you linked look like junk, no offense. There are tons of great knives but seriously just start out with a Mora Heavy Duty the value for $17.58 untouchable by other knives. Learn to use the mora then you can make a bigger purchase is you want a fancier knife or a chopper. Spoilers: many of us never want to upgrade from the mora line.

Don’t get swept up in size you really only need a knife bigger than 5 inches for chopping the rest of the tasks it benefits you to have a smaller more controllable blade. Many of us, myself included, prefer an axe/hatchet over a chopper.

For what it is worth here is my hierarchy for blades in the order of usefulness to survival.

  • Basic fixed blade (Mora)
  • Hatchet
  • Saw
  • Good multi tool
  • Chopper
  • Fancy knives
