lots of my friends have been to Elkins Creek. they've all really enjoyed it and really enjoyed riding in Wayne National Forest. i had a trip planned a few years ago, but unfortunately plans changed last minute and i was unable to go.
the tips i have from hearing and seeing their adventures:
there is no cell service in camp, and there's like one spot at the very tippy top of a hill outside of camp. so be conscious of that!
ticks can be really bad down there. make sure to check yourself and your horse when you get back to camp. have a device to easily remove ticks should you find any imbedded on you or your horse. i use the "tick twister". wear clothes that have been treated with permethrin and wear deet bug spray on exposed skin. bring fly spray for your horse that's active ingredient is permethrin as well. i recommend ultrashield red.
all of my friends, overall, had good experiences at Elkins Creek. i do think there's some nuance with water usage for hosing off horses in camp. other then that, i think it's a great place to ride and camp at.
