Timeless Razor Shave Bowl. It's cheap at $14 or so.

I find the tinier bowls are notorious for spilling the soap out the sides when lathering / loading. This one doesn't.

Does he already use a bowl? Some guys prefer to build a lather on their face. If he likes bowl lathering then these are popular options:
