Since the Kangertech SUBOX Mini Starter Kit was mentioned. I have this handy little (ok, it's quite lengthy and detailed to be of as much help possible) macro all prepared.
We all know the SUBOX Mini Kit is widely recommended for beginner and even some intermediate vapors.
It also gets great reviews. I am in no way, shape, or form affiliated with any of these companies.
Unfortunately, you have to purchase for multiple sites to get the best deals.
There is no TL;DR for this. I apologize, but I don't want you to be upset if you're a newcomer to the wonderful world of vaping.
Below is my "SUBOX Macro" on where to buy your SUBOX for the cheapest price I have yet to find, shipped out of the US, from an authentic seller. This post also contains where to buy batteries and a charger from. You NEED good batteries for vaping in general, so the batteries and charger can be used with pretty much any other mod you will get.
DO NOT BUY THIS UNTIL YOU ASK MORE QUESTIONS, BECAUSE YOU WILL HAVE SOME. WE ALL DON'T HAVE MONEY TO FUCK UP WITH AND ORDER THE WRONG THING OR BE UNEDUCATED ABOUT IT.
Kangertech SUBOX Mini Starter Kit.
www.vistavapors.com with code 'vv3' and it should come to $50.99 with free shipping. I believe they are also throwing in a free 10mL of 0nic juice. Mine came with 10mL of 0nic Altostratus from them.
You will enter the discount code in "Step 5: Order Confirmation."
You may also need to buy replacement coils for the SUBOX Mini since it only comes with a single 0.5 ohm coil and a 1.5 ohm coil.
The SUBOX Mini also comes with an RBA Deck, so you can build your own coils, which is MUCH CHEAPER in the long run. The flavor and vapor production seems to be much better as well. This RBA will come with 2 premade coils that will come out to be around 0.5-0.6 ohms. It will also come with enough cotton to re-wick 6ish times. This will be covered later on in this.
My personal advice from experience, pick up a 5 pack of the coils (you will most likely be sub-ohming, so pick up an extra 5 pack of the 0.5 ohm OCC coils). Why? Well, I accidentally burnt my cotton right before leaving the house one day. I did not have enough time to rebuild so I just tossed in an OCC coil.
With the OCC Coils from vistavapors added to your cart, your total should come to $63.73 with free shipping. Note: These are the Horizontal OCC coils from my experience, not the newer Vertical Coils that the SUBOX Mini Kit will come with. It's not that big of a deal IMO.
Now, this mod will NOT come with a battery, so you will need to buy one of those. However, the best (most recommended) batteries and charger cannot be found on this site. These are in the next break.
Bonus: on www.vistavapors.com , you will earn some bonus points for your purchase! Ever $1.00 spent (before coupon code it seems) is 100 points. Every 5,000 points you earn will get you $5.00 worth of credit on the site. These can be redeemed through the link on the lower lefthand corner saying "Rewards Program" in a black box.
(Technically speaking, you should just be able to buy the SUBOX first with the coupon code, then redeem your $5.00 credit along with the coupon code vv3 on a set of coils and save another $1.51. I'm not too sure if that will work out correctly so this is why I'm not directly advising that.)
Total for SUBOX Mini Kit: $50.99 with free shipping & I think 10mL of 0nic random juice.
Total for the SUBOX Mini Kit + 5 pack of OCC Coils: $63.73
A little tip: Start off at a low wattage and slowly work your way up. That way you don't burn your cotton. Once the cotton is burnt and you get a dreaded dry hit, that coil or cotton are garbage. You can't get the burnt flavor out of the cotton. This may ruin the juice in your tank as well.
Tip 2: See those little holes on the side of the OCC Coil or the RBA? DO NOT let your juice get below them. This will almost certainly cause a dry hit. Do your best to keep the juice level above those holes at all times.
Trusted/Recommended Batteries and Charger from legitimate sellers. Do not ignore this and say "I'll just look on Amazon/eBay." because you may end up with fake products. Inferior batteries can go BOOM! in your hand/mod. A bad charger can do the same thing in your house.
The battery is definitely needed since the SUBOX Mini Kit does not come with it's own battery or built in battery. You will want more than 1 battery since it's always good to have a spare fully charged one.
The charger is highly recommended. Even though the SUBOX Mini can charge the battery in the mod itself and has pass-through charging (you can vape as it charges), it's not recommended by most here. Plus, you'll probably buy more mods anyway and will need a charger.
2 Samsung 25r Flat Top Batteries + Nitecore Charger Two sites and options in case one is sold out.
www.lightningvapes.com with code 'ohmsweetohm'. ohmsweetohm is 17% off and provides free shipping. The Samsung 25r batteries are $7.50 each, and you want the Flat Top batteries. Choose what you want for the charger, as long as it's a Nitecore. My advice is to get one with 4 bays because you never know how many batteries/mods you'll eventually own, and it's only ~$5 difference in price. (This site will also be reference below in the RBA section for Kanthal).
The cart I built with 2 Samsung 25r Flat Top batteries and a Nitecore i4 charger (which I cannot take a screenshot of since they are out of stock for batteries currently) will come out to be $32.44.
www.illumn.com has no discount code that I know of. Batteries here are only $5 each for the Samsung 25r Flat Top batteries, and they have a few different Nitecore Chargers to pick from. You will want to pick the i2, i4, D2, or D4.
The difference between the i# and D# Nitecore chargers is that the D# chargers will provide battery percents and other information, while the i# chargers just have bars showing how far the battery is charged. They have the same safety features.
The cart I built on here with 2 Samsung 25r Flat Top batteries, and a Nitecore i4 (2014 Edition) charger comes out to be $35.70. The shipping on this site is damn expensive and varies depending on where you live.
Yes, there are a few other reputable batteries, such as the Sony VTC3 VTC4 and VTC5, and LG HE2, but the Samsung 25r are the more widely recommended.
Now, you will notice LightningVapes has Green Samsung 25r batteries and Illumn has Blue. The Green are from a newer production than the Blue. They should be the same exact battery. Some say the Green will take more charges or work better at a lower charge percentage. I can't find anything to back that up.
Kanthal and Cotton for the RBA Deck that is included with the SUBOX Mini Kit This will save you a lot of money in the long run.
Now, this section is a bit more "hands on" and a little more advanced and will require some knowledge of "Ohms law" and proper battery safety.
Here are two links that will help you out building coils. www.steam-engine.org/ohm.asp which will help you understand some of Ohms Law and http://www.steam-engine.org/coil.asp which will help you build coils. The SUBOX itself can fire from 7.0 watts up to 50.0 watts as we know. From what I've been reading, the Subtank Mini is recommended to be operated under 35 watts. Since you don't have an Ohm Reader yet, DO NOT build anything under 0.2 ohms for safety's sake. Your KBOX Mini (the mod in the kit) will not fire anything below 0.3ohm for safety, it will blink "Check Atomizer" if you do that.
The Samsung 25r should NOT be operated over 20 amps. DO NOT DO THAT! You don't want to have a battery vent or potentially explode. I want this to be made clear.
Since we are just starting off, it is recommended to go with 26 Gauge Kanthal. www.lightningvapes.com will have this pretty cheap, so with ohmsweetohm as the discount code, you can get something like 100 feet for under $5. That's going to last you a very long time since each coil only needs 6-8 inches.
Lightningvapes however only carries Cotton Bacon, which some feel is not the best.
Rip Trippers has a pretty good video here on how to build for this.
Cotton, damn that's a rough one, there's so many sites that carry it and prices fluctuate on this.
There are also many different brands recommended. We're just going to keep it simple and go to Amazon and get this one. Puff
With our RBA deck, and rebuilding coils, let's just stick with the 5 wraps around the Blue Screwdriver for a ~0.5 ohm build since you're still learning here.
If you want to get more advanced, build some fancy twisted coils, clapton coils, etc. , go for really low ohms (in the future, not right now since the SUBOX Mini Kit won't work under 0.3 ohms), etc. There is this kit from Amazon if you have Prime If not, Here is a better one on ElementVape for $6 more.
It's recommended you get one of those anyway, since it will make life easier and more importantly, safer.
Now, you may be saying "that's a lot of money for rebuilding, I'll just stick to buying the premade OCC Coils". However, this is all an upfront initial investment that will definitely pay off and save you tons of money in the long run. $12-15 for 5 coils (and it's possible 1-2 may not work), or ~$50 for probably 100 coils when you make them yourself. It's fun too!
Enjoy!
