beginning of this season i had dead zones from what worx support called it. ive had my landroid little over 3 years, made about half splices over the years. i made the splices with heatgun to seal them water tight. never had trouble other than finding the cut or break. then got a tone dector at harbor freight which done well. am radio was barely noticeable and not helpful to me.
so this year my station would be red light but tone dector couldn't find a break. then the next day it when solid green. so i tested out the mower. in certain parts of the yard it would stop do about a 180 then continue. so i thought maybe its a firmware update for some new algortim . called support and they where mostly confused because it didnt make sense, but they leaned on it being a wire issue. so we did a ohms test. a short new wire, then the one in the yard. both tested under 1. so it didnt make sense. later i realized i used the wrong ports on my multimeter. when i tested again, it said under 1 for the short one and 85 ish for the one in the ground. so i figured there must be some small scratch in the wire somewhere and moisture got in it. i know my connections are good because the heatgun seals good. so off to amazon for the best wire to last the longest.
i came to the conclusion if im going to rewire my whole yard then i want to make sure its better than the last. so i got 1000ft of marine wire from a brand thats popular in the marine world. good again saltwater and so forth. i got the 18 guage. there was some reviews of the spools not shiped right or had a few breaks. not sure about them, but i got allot better quality than landroid or the solid core junk from pet safe. the copper wire strands was plated to help from corrosion and it had a thicker sheathing. the wire was flexible and after takeing off the sheathing the wire strands where more sturdy.
conclusion - no more landroid saying missing wire randomly or stopping in middle of yard looking for wire signal. and after laying new wire i made sure to keep a little extra on each corner like suggested.
hopefully this helps.
