Any name brand that delivers 2.1A at 5v.

I like Anker, but currently use one from Ikea.

I would invest in a good cable too. Here is the one I use at home, and the one I use when I am traveling (I put the battery pack in my shirt pocket when using the short cable.) The right-angle connectors are awesome, and reversible!

I have tried multiple magnetic cables, but so far I have not had great luck with them keeping the Go fully charged. That may just be because I really went low-bid on them.

The Osprey Atmos is a more popular backpack than that Volt. Fit is really the most important part of this - so if you have a chance to try either on - that would be ideal.

These poles are better than the ones you have listed:

The North Face Venture jacket is more popular / recommended than the Resolve:

Skip the solar charger. A USB battery pack is way more useful. Solar are just too bulky and low charge for the effort. Get 2 if you really need the power.

Tent is really small and not a popular/quality brand. How much time will you spend sleeping in this? Every night? Have you ever slept in a 1-person bivy style shelter before? Where will your backpack go at night? I would not recommend this. If you really need to go this cheap (under $100 is SUPER low for a quality ultralight backpacking tent) - then consider Nature Hike brand. They are a knockoff Chineese company that's somewhat good.

That sleeping bag is garbage. It's super bulky and not very warm. The 32F rating is a straight up lie.

I recommend this bag instead:

You also need a sleeping pad. Not optional. Check this out:

100% skip that hammer multitool. WOW is that thing bad. If you need a knife - buy a knife. You do not need a hammer for backpacking.

The headlamp is great, good choice.

The stove / pot / cook kit is okay. It's a popular budget option. If you could spend a bit more there are better choices. For example:

Don't forget TP/wipes (and a way to pack them out once used), good wool socks, dry bags / pack cover, food bag, water bottles, map, first aid, toiletries, lighter, duct tape, phone/camera, and other random items. Plus clothes of course - lots of layers!

This is the one he's talking about. While it doesn't have USB C and doesn't support the Nexus' USB C Rapid Charge protocol, it does output up to 2.4Amps. You're 5x will display "Charging Rapidly" so it is taking more than 1.5 Amps, but not the full 3 Amps the charger your phone came with. So it will charge your phone faster than a regular 5v1A charger, but not as fast as the charger your phone came with, but honestly, the difference in charge speed is minimal.

See the comments here with a little discussion about charging amps vs time.

On a budget so I'm trying to stay under $30.

I did find an Anker powerbank with 10,000 mah that looks promising, so I'm leaning towards getting that one.

Honestly just bring a battery charger like this. Charge it at night and you'll be fine. I mostly used my phone on the bus to listen to music on tour and I was fine this way.

I use multiple power banks so there's always something available. The MaxOak was purchased in 2016 so there may be a newer model available. It has been really good for a laptop though. The 26800 might work for your purposes. The small Ankers charge quickly and pack a surprisingly good punch.

Also use one of these:

Have three of these for on the go:

Just purchased one of these but it takes FOREVER to charge so it may end up living somewhere else:

So I don't have access to the bag. The website doesn't seem to offer measurements on the battery pack pouch and I can't seem to find a picture of it with any valuable scale. Are you able to provide some measurements to the space or size of the largest thing you can fit in there maybe?

I have an Anker Powercore 10000 and an Anker Powercore 5000 and both are pretty darn small so I would hope they would fit. Depending on device the 10k mAh can charge your phone roughly three times and the 5K One and a half times before needing a recharge. I find the 10K small enough that I use it as a primary charger and keep the 5K as an extra backup when I really want to go lighter.

Anker makes the best portable batteries that I've used, personally. You can find them in a variety of sizes on Amazon but I'd imagine a 10,000 mAh would be enough to charge your phone multiple times over the weekend

I carry an Anker Powercore 10000. Will charge my S8 a couple of times with some change. For two, pick up a second one.

Here is the powerbank I use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0194WDVHI

I'm running it another build that uses a larger screen and I've getting about 1-2 hrs of constant gaming use. So I imagine with a smaller screen (5.5" vs. 7") and more casual computing vs gaming, I'd be @ 2+ hrs.

There are 2 other issues. This occurs on some, but not all USB battery packs. I will quote straight from Adafruit.com.

"When you start and stop charging the pack, it will flicker the output, this can cause a 'power sensitive' device like the Pi or an iPhone to reset on the power supply. "

"If using it with a low current load, 100mah or less, the pack may fall asleep."

I can confirm a few battery packs from 2 reputable brands that do not have the first problem.

Anker Powercore Fusion 5000/10000 [note the "Fusion" in the brand name]

RavPower 2-in-1 Portable Charger 6700/10000

The second issue will likely only come up if you are using an older Pi or Zero and sitting at an idle state.

The biggest issue I see with the unit that OP linked is that it does have the pass thru function [meaning charge and power at same time] but you have to hit the button twice to initiate this. This could hinder functionality while using a computer attached to it, possibly causing unnecessary reboots as you put it into this mode.

Anker makes some great chargers, can't go wrong with one of those.

Depending on how much you're willing to spend, this one will charge your phone about 3-4 times and cost less than $25 while this one is $70 but will keep you charged all weekend.

I used my iPad Mini 4 as a primary device for a while. Sold it because it got very slow and I wanted to cut my losses when the new model was announced. I used the Microsoft Foldable Keyboard but have also heard good things about the Logitech Keys-To-Go and Brydge 7.9. I am probably going to buy the 2019 model sometime before I go back to school—it's a great device for both traveling on trains and planes and studying.

Other must-have accessories are a portable charger, a wireless mouse for iPadOS, a stand, a game controller, an Apple Pencil, an Apple Pencil charger or a hub, a guitar interface if you make music, a case, a screen protector, and a bag.

Good apps are Soulver, Tweetbot, PDFelement, Luna VPN, Yoink, Spark, Wikipanion, GoodNotes, Opener, Drafts, Pythonista, Shortcuts, Launch Center Pro, Ulysses, Editorial, Photoship Mix, Procreate, and Kindle.

I got mine on amazon too

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Portable-Ultra-Compact-High-speed-Charging-Technology/dp/B0194WDVHI/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1472406756&sr=8-7&keywords=portable+battery

I chose it because of the 5 stars, and portable size. I'm not actually sure it's better than other options though, I didn't get too deep into the comparisons, but now it looks like i'm in the market for a new one... Do you have any suggestions?

I went with this Anker 10000 mAH battery at 6.4 ounces it's a couple ounces lighter than other 10 Ah batteries I've seen, and it's very small in size.

For solar I have a small panel from Sunkingdom that weighs 6.5 ounces on my scale. So a total 0f 12.9 ounces for battery and panel.

I used this same combo of solar panel and 10Ah battery on the colorado trail this past summer and found it worked well. Many days I would use the solar panel only, but it was nice to have the battery for the times it was cloudy for a few days in a row.

I definitely agree with this. While it's one of the HMDs with the least friction with regards to set up, the initial setup can be a beast. A couple of tips:

  • Get one of the small power banks and a fairly short USB-C cable that can be used to continually power the HMD for extended play. Have it charged and ready.
  • Use the 5Ghz wifi channel if you have it, you won't want to be too far from your router.
  • Make sure all your devices (Quest, Phone and Chromecast [if you use one]) are all on the same wifi channel and if using a guest network, make sure guest isolation is disabled (or better yet, add your devices specifically to your router).
  • Create/Log in to the Oculus account you'll be using (ideally the one for whom the gift is to be given), perform any device updates, purchase or download any software to the device (and I get updates for apps often).
  • Install any demos and/or free apps (definitely First Steps and First Contact) so that will be available on start.
  • If you are going to use a Chromecast (or another supported casting device) to show on a TV or projector what the person using the Quest is experiencing, have that set up and tested.
  • Make sure fresh AA batteries are in the controllers, charge HMD fully and after all is said and done, shut it down completely --put back in the packaging as neatly as possible.

I know part of the fun might be the setup, but technical glitches can be frustrating when someone is anticipating playing it immediately. Make sure you position it so it's the last gift that is opened, however, or the rest of the gifts may not be opened for a while.

I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0194WDVHI/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_C0MCW5P1A09BCWY1PS0N

Looks like a handful of new options have come out since I bought this one.
