Mutes will all change the tone of the violin. A practice mute's whole purpose is to prevent the instrument from vibrating as much, a large rubber practice mute like that especially will drastically change the sound.
If it's an issue of volume perhaps a metal mute would sound better to you? I suggest the Artino rubber covered metal mute available on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006GCNUHQ
I have the one that sounded like the best balance for my instrument, and as with all things violin, a different combination might work better for you, but the artino rubber coated metal mute is super quiet. Here it is at my local shop:

It still preserves the bowing feedback. Unfortunately my Yamaha electric doesn’t really give any feedback at all.
