I would go for something that has the same weight as a puck at least. You want to be able to cradle the passes so you can get a feel for receiving the puck on a pass. Nothing is a replacement for ice time, but the following can really help your coordination.
A couple things I'd recommend: Swedish hockey balls, green biscuit (works perfectly on smooth concrete), shooting pad with a self passer.
