Wireless these days is quite solid. The battery issue is easily solvable by having spare batteries and swapping each session.

Most people will recommend the official console controllers so in your case you'd need to purchase a PS4 or PS5 controller.

Ps4 has some decent officially licensed controllers as well https://www.playstation.com/en-us/accessories/additional-ps4-gaming-controllers/

8bitdo i forgot about until you linked it but they are pretty good. I'd recommend 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro+ Bluetooth Controller Wireless Gamepad for Switch, PC, macOS, Android, Steam and Raspberry Pi (Black Edition) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ND166P6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_fabc_HB89HM108B0FYYTNFZM1

Lastly you could try getting an old ps2 controller and purchasing an adapter Finera USB 2.0 Games Controller Adapter Converter Cable, Compatible with Sony PS1 PS2 Playstation Dual shock 2 Joypad Gamepad to PS3 PC Game https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GJCCF2T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_fabc_XWAVFEQ4Y5VGS4Z8DYZS

I would not recommend that IXFSOO of whatever the hell it was called. If it works at all it will feel like shit (mushy buttons, joysticks feel too light, etc) and it probably won't last long.

I bought this one because it was recommended for Tetris 99. Before this I was constantly getting misdrops because the pro controller was registering up sometimes along with the sides on the d-pad. Since I already had it, this is what I’ve used for Mega39s too, and I’ve been much happier with it than the standard pro controller.

As of now I see SN30 Pro+, black color, in stock for both Amazon UK and US?

I went from official 8bitdo website to official Amazon offers, which are linked on each product page.

US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ND166P6 UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01ND166P6

However, if you want to save some bucks, place order at AliExpress, which will save you almost 40 USD, for a full package (Gamepad, Clip and a storage bag). Amazon would debit 75 USD. That’s nearly half the price, for same articles.

Thanks for reaffirming my thoughts about starting with a stick. It seems like a heavy investment for a genre that I am only just beginning with.

I have also heard a lot of praise for the 8BitDo M30 for its excellent d-pad, compatibility, and portability; it's my top choice atm. What are your thoughts on the SN30 Pro Plus? It seems like a great combination between your DS4 and SN30.

Not sure what console your playing on but if its PC, Switch, Android or Mac, I HIGHLY recommend the 8Bitdo Sn30 Pro+ - https://smile.amazon.com/8Bitdo-Sn30-Pro-Bluetooth-Gamepad-Black/dp/B01ND166P6/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3172SWP3GRT1R&keywords=8bitdo+sn30+pro+plus&qid=1570463258&sprefix=8bit%2Caps%2C177&sr=8-4 (sadly it doesn't work on an XB1 or PS4)
