I just bought one last week off of Amazon, it didn't have any reviews yet but they had others that were well reviewed so I took a chance. I have an external monitor, mechanical keyboard and ethernet cable connected to it and so far I've been very happy. I've connected my phone and iPad to it as well with no problems. It's a little chunky, but I had one similar to yours that attached to my MacBook and I hated it. Never worked right and constantly slid out enough so that nothing would work.
