I'm not sure what you're into, but I tend to like darker subject matter.
I'd suggest The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things by J.T. LeRoy. Asia Argento made an amazing movie of it that you could watch after. It's really heartwrenching. Plus there's an insane back story. This (and other books by the author) were released as memoirs. Only, the author didn't actually exist as written. Instead they were written by a woman who had her sister do the public appearances. She became famous and schmoozed with celebs for something like 10 years before the hoax blew open. Fun stuff.
There's also The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks. Creepy stuff! The twist at the end will blow you away.
Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow is a really interesting take on werewolves. The entire novel is written in poems. It's addicting!
Camille by Alexandre Dumas Fils is probably one of the most beautiful and tragic stories I have ever read. I bought an old copy at a flea market and I've yet to be able to finish it without weeping. Not as dark as the other ones, but very moving. This was also the inspiration for a film starring Greta Garbo as Camille.
Also, I don't know if you're into graphic novels at all, but there's one that I have been particularly obsessed with as of late. Skydoll. The visuals are breathtaking and the story is great too. The only downside is you'd be waiting with the rest of us for the next volume to come out. It's originally French and translated and distributed by Marvel. I can't tell you how many make-up looks I've done that were inspired in some form or another by this comic.
Happy reading!
