I've been interested in putting a more permanent bed in. This Coleman Comfortsmart is comfy but only fits with the center cupholder console pulled out and the passenger seat all the way forward. I really liked u/_car2d2_'s build which (confirmed with my tape measure) will clear the floor console and allow me to snap in one seat while the bed is in.
I may or may not build this due to lumber prices and a growing itch to upgrade to a sprinter, but some notes on it below:
- I designed this with 1x4s. The original looks to be made from 1x2s and 1x3s, but I wanted mine to be all the same stock. I've also split enough of the thinner woods that I wanted some allowance to make assembly easier
- It's taller than the original--I've got 14" tall bins I plan to chuck underneath
- I'd recommend adding legs between the head/foot rails of the bed instead of just along the sides--I had this thought on the original, but it seems especially spindly/wobbly given the extra height of my design.
- SLATS--there aren't any. Y'all are smart--figure it out. I'm tired and should be in bed.
- Idk if OP has a custom mattress or what, so that's another thing to figure out later.
If I build it, I'll share pics, I promise :)
CORRECTION: Piece #1, head_foot_outer should be 24in, not 19.5in
